A Word From God
Jennifer Williams
.......so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it. Isaiah 55:11
A word from God is different from having thoughts about God. I remember many years ago as I sat on the edge of my bed and opened my devotional book, I read a scripture verse that impacted me to the point where I fell to the floor! Many years later, I have come to realize that these instances happen far too seldomly, and when they do, you'll never forget them. God spoke to me from Jeremiah 29:11and I knew that the word brought purpose. It was months later that he gave me a vision of that purpose and years before it materialized. The word changed the course of my life as it convicted me from following an erroneous belief. I knew that he had plans for me and whatever I did, that eventually those plans would come to fruition.
God's word is powerful and sharp, it cuts through the soul and spirit, it discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12). When you can't distinguish the soul from the spirit, God's word will. It is living and effective, and even though it remains dormant for a season, it will come to life. If God has given you a word or a promise, be sure that it will happen in his time.
Receiving a personal word from God gives purpose to our lives. Abraham received a word and it changed the course of his life. It led to him becoming the father of nations! Noah had a word and it saved his life and all his family as God destroyed the world. The thing is, whoever we are, when we have received a word from God, it changes us. He does not choose special people, he chooses ordinary people and make them special. They become special because they believe and act on the word they received.
You will know when you have received a word from God because it will never leave you. It comforts and encourages you as it touches your heart and mind and leads you to action. After receiving that word from him, I began to seek after him with all my heart. Sometimes a word from him leads to the mission field, or to pursue a paticular vocation in life.
There is a vast difference between information and revelation. Let us seek him so that he can reveal himself to us. After all, he has plans for us all. Spend time with him everyday. You can even ask him for a word for your life and listen as he speaks. You will hear his voice through reading his word, through a sermon or from an individual speaking into your life. He has been speaking from the beginning of time and he still speaks today!
